Cantilever System Design and Configuration

Single-Sided Cantilever Racking
Designed for installation along walls or building perimeters. This configuration maximizes perimeter storage while preserving open floor space for material handling operations.

Double-Sided Cantilever Racking
Provides access from both sides of the rack, increasing storage density and throughput. Suitable for central aisles and high-volume handling environments.

Both configurations support long-span loads and allow material placement without vertical uprights blocking access. Systems are compatible with standard forklifts, side loaders, and multi-directional lift equipment.

Cantilever Performance Characteristics

Components of a Cantilever Racking System

Columns (Uprights/Towers):
Columns form the primary vertical load-bearing structure of the cantilever system. RACKsteel supplies multiple column heights and structural profiles engineered to meet specified load capacities and ceiling clearances. Proper column selection is critical to system stability, arm spacing compatibility, and bracing configuration, and is required to achieve compliant load ratings.

Arms:
Arms provide direct product support and are specified based on material depth, weight distribution, and handling method. Available in inclined configurations, arms are bolted and vertically adjustable, allowing reconfiguration as storage requirements change. Arm selection directly affects allowable load per level and overall system performance. Arm locking pins are available to prevent material from rolling off.

Bracing:
Bracing assemblies provide lateral stability and structural rigidity across rack bays. Bracing lengths are available in standard sizes of 32″, 38″ and 60″, and add-on units can be added to the starter sets to expand the system for as long as needed. Custom brace lengths are available on request. Bracing assemblies are engineered to control sway, transfer loads between columns, and maintain system alignment. Proper bracing design is required for both new installations and system expansions to meet structural and seismic requirements.

Light and Medium-Duty Cantilever
Light and medium-duty cantilever is ideal for trim, conduit, small pipe, light-lumber skids, boxed products, shelving, furniture, general warehouse storage and lightweight profiles. Suitable for compact storage areas and lower load requirements. Balances capacity with accessibility.

Heavy-Duty Cantilever
For steel tubing, timber, prefabricated assemblies, and heavy materials. Compatible with forklifts, side loaders, and overhead cranes. Designed for high-load industrial applications.

Duty ratings are determined based on load per arm, column capacity, total bay loading and soil and concrete data.
